Costa Rica Real Estate and the Immigration Bill Proposal

April 19, 2009 - Costa Rica real estate brokers are having a hard enough time selling real estate with the bad economy and the bad press received of late about construction development companies in Costa Rica going bust.

At long last, real estate brokers in Costa Rica may get some relief thanks to the changes to the immigration bill draft.

According to an immigration website report, changes have been made to the proposed immigration bill that would cushion the new requirements for foreigners wanting to live in Costa Rica.

To begin with, the increased income requirement for residency which was originally set at $600 per month for a pensionado and $1,000 per month for a rentista has now increased to $1,000 and $2,500 respectively.

The amount is about half of what was originally in the first draft of the new proposed immigration bill.

Costa Rica real estate brokers are happy with this new development because the new increase in income requirement is still affordable for most people wanting to move to Costa Rica.

Many retirees who wanted to invest in Costa Rica real estate for their retirement were holding off on purchasing property in Costa Rica until they knew more about the new immigration bill.

Now that the word is out and the income requirement increase is still within the means of most people wanting to live in Costa Rica, these people can now seriously look at purchasing real estate in Costa Rica.

The last few months have been very tough for real estate brokers but recently, it looks like the industry may get back to normal.

With the prices of real estate being 10% to 20% cheaper than before and the many improvements being done in Costa Rica, the real estate industry is expected to pick up in the next couple of months.
